SHOULD I FIX MY HOME OR SELL "AS-IS"?  Buyers looking for a deal may appreciate having to pay less for a home that only needs a few thousand dollars to repair.  On the other hand, sellers need to consider that if they spend a few thousand dollars to fix any problems, the home will show well, and may reduce the amount of time on the market.  Also, with premium home sales, many retired buyers may not want to spend their precious time remodeling  Ref: Wall Street Journal Aug. 24,2008.

TAX BREAK FOR FIRST-TIME BUYERSIn July a bill was passed to give relief to the housing industry.  One of the bill's components is to give a $7,500 tax credit to first-time home buyers.  If a homebuyer owes the IRS $10,000, the amount owed will only be $2,500.00.  However, the credit will need to be paid back at of rate of $500.00 each year, similar to a 15 year, interest free loan.  Another component of the bill allows for early withdrawal of traditional or Roth IRA funds without the 10% withdrawal penaltyRef: Wall Street Journal Aug. 17, 2008.
